Have your cake and eat it too... A review on Tastykake® Kandy Bar Kakes

There’s an old saying that you can’t have your cake and eat it too, but Tastykake has created a new cake line that will make those nay sayers eat their words. Recently Tastykake created a new line called Kandy Bar Kakes, which they described as being the “best of both worlds”.  This line contains three unqiue cakes in the candy bar shape which have a delicious crème which are favored in various candy bar flavors. Right now you can grab these cakes in S'mores, Peppermint, and Peanut Butter flavor. Recently I received a free Tastykake sample to try and review in my SpringVoxBox and I was excited about trying it. My daughters were present when I opened my box and they were immediately drawn to the chocolate cake that seemed to be calling their names. I agreed that we would sit down that afternoon and try the cake together as our afternoon snack. That afternoon as we got ready to try it out, I realized that the cake’s best by date was two weeks past due. Both the girls and I were disappointed because I decided not eat it because I did not feel it would be fair to review a product that was not fresh.  Because the girls and I were so looking forward to trying the cake I went to our local grocery store and I picked up a new box. I was not able to find the S’more flavor which I originally received so I instead purchased the Reese Tastykake. I found that the cake’s were not too expensive and they were a good value for how many you received. When I got the cake’s home I gave one to my husband, my two daughters, and my husband’s two teenage cousins. Once everyone tried the cake’s the overall reviews were mixed. My two young daughters loved the cake’s and asked for more, while the two teenagers were not a fan of them because they said the cake was too dry. My husband agreed with the teenagers and he felt that the cake was not good. I felt like the flavors of the cake was very good and I felt like the cake did a great job of capturing the state of a Reese candy bar. I loved the creamy texture and flavor of the peanut butter filling and this by far was my favorite part of the cake. In regards to actual cake, I found the cake to be somewhat dry and crumbly.  After tasting the creamy filling I was expecting the cake to be more on the moist side but it wasn’t. I was somewhat disappointed because Tastykake described the cake as being light and fluffy which mine was not. I have tried other Tastykake products in the past and the cakes have tasted much better. Overall, I think the concept of the cake is good but I feel that more work should be done on the cake part of it. I loved the creamy feeling but the cake part left me longing for something more. I am going to try one of the other flavors to see if I may have gotten a bad box.
I received this product complimentary for testing and review purposes from Influenster.  This review is based on my own personal use of the product.
